6 Must See Hidden Destinations Of Europe
The Cinque Terre, Italy
The photo says it all. Your idyllic getaway just came to life. A natural as well as semi-natural marvel of the Mediterranean, head to this place to get away from the crowds. This group of five coastal fishing villages are the stuff you read about in romance novels and date back to the early medieval times.
Most of the remains today are from the Late High Middle Ages and include castles and parishes. With a crystal clear blue sea surrounding it, and limits on development of housing and major roadways this is not your typical touristy place.
Don’t forget to marvel at uniquely stepped terrace cliffs which are bisected by a complicated system of fields and gardens. The muretti (low stone walls) are reminiscent of the Great Wall of China.
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Cinque Terre is an increasingly sought after location among Italian and foreign tourists.
