6 Must See Hidden Destinations Of Europe
Europe Hidden Destinations
Most people behave as if they have a steady relationship going on when it comes to travel in Europe. Specially with the usual cities but not many people talk about its hidden destinations.
An abiding and dutiful relationship with Paris, Rome, Amsterdam and London which starts and ends with visits to usual suspects like the Colosseum , the Sistine chapel , a ride through the city of canals and stocking up on the latest fashion trends on the streets of Paris.
While there is nothing wrong with such devotion, there is something alluring about having a bit of flirtatious fun. We are not asking you to stop visiting these staples in your travel itinerary but here are six hidden destinations in Europe that you haven’t visited but need to visit…as soon as possible.
Is ‘middle of the sky’ the first thought that comes to your mind when you see this photo? Well, that’s what the name ‘Meteora’ literally means in Greek. Meteora is famous as the home of one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos.
These six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars. The Meteora is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Flights, buses and trains are the available means of transport to reach Meteora depending on your starting point.
You can hire a taxi at the railway station to take you to all the monasteries but if you want to get a real feel of how things were done in the 11th century, walk to the monasteries. While this may sound intimidating considering the blocks of rocks, walking around is actually not difficult because of the neatly paved pathways.
Chose a pathway, like the one from the old town of Kalambaka to the monastery of Holy Trinity. To immerse yourself in your surroundings give the crowds a miss and don’t forget to arm yourself with a camera for an unforgettable experience.
